Playing Chicken With God
An Exhibition by nobleXdeer

Playing Chicken With God is a multidisciplinary exhibition exploring grief, rupture, identity, and psychological rebirth through painting, text, and spatial design.

Anchored by a central triptych — Initium Thaumaturgicum, Signum Renati, and Lingua Incognita — the exhibition traces a clear arc: confrontation, transformation, and revelation. The works examine what occurs when an individual stands at the threshold between collapse and reinvention.

The exhibition is introduced by Divine Transmission, a foundational work that functions as the point of entry into the broader body of paintings. Positioned as the threshold piece, it signals the moment of contact — the initial rupture that precedes transformation — and establishes the visual language that unfolds throughout the exhibition.

Developed from an interconnected body of over 20 self-taught paintings, the project extends themes first explored in the spoken-word album Love Letters to the Lost and the live production Love Letters Live. Where those works examined private grief, this exhibition moves the conversation into a shared public space.

At its core, Playing Chicken With God seeks to create an environment where vulnerability is not aestheticised but embodied. The project addresses men’s grief and emotional suppression, inviting audiences into a space that encourages reflection, dialogue, and recognition.

This is not a passive viewing experience. It is a constructed threshold — one that positions art as a catalyst for psychological confrontation and collective understanding.
