Mark II is part of the ongoing Make a Mark study series — a body of intuitive gesture works exploring presence, restraint, movement, and the psychological threshold between intention and instinct.
Created in a minimal visual field, the piece prioritises the act of mark-making itself over representation or resolution. Each stroke functions less as illustration and more as evidence of contact: a record of motion, pressure, hesitation, and release. The translucent layering and shifting density of the pigment allow the gesture to remain exposed rather than concealed beneath refinement.
The work operates as both study and confrontation — an investigation into how little is required for a mark to carry tension, rhythm, and emotional weight. Rather than constructing an image, Mark II invites the viewer into the space where thought becomes action.
